Is ranged support worth keeping?

Postby Cyphaze » Tue Sep 14, 2004 8:06 am

I'm a MCH, a master scout, a novice pistoleer working towards master, and a 0/0/2/0 ranger working towards tracking III. If I want to keep MCH, Master Pistoleer, and Novice Ranger, I'll have to drop the ranged support tree (in Marksman) entirely. Is this tree and its ranged bonuses worth keeping at all?

Just for the ranged and melee defense in my opinion. But one of those military backpacks with the bonuses would take care of that.

Assuming I don't have a backpack right now, would it really hurt me that much to surrender all four ranged support skills and replace it with novice ranger and tracking III?

I don't really think so. I don't have any of the Ranged support myself and only 0-0-4-2 in Carbineer with some CH thrown in and I do fine in battle. I think the Ranged Support line is basically a bonus for heavy ranged fighters since it adds a few points of melee defense and ranged defense but nothing considerable.

The Ranged Support branch in Marksman is pretty useless. Especially when you compare it to the great Tracking branch in Ranger. You'll be able to track rare babies AND get rich from high harvesting skills.

Wasnt going to say anything until I saw that, hehe.
YMMV, but for me Rangers Tracking was the most useless tree Ive ever seen. If you get on your bike and drive fast through an area and then jump down and track it will come up blank. Cause to save bandwidth your computer doesnt know hardly any of the mobs in the area, and the tracking works on client side.

In other words, it will depend on how much you lag how many targets you receive while tracking.

Ive found that warning shot can be handy sometimes, for crowd control. But unless you use that I dont think you will miss Ranged Support much.
