CH exp gained VS CL of pet

Postby ColdBrew » Wed Jul 28, 2004 12:31 pm

I'm kinda confused about this. I've read another topic about it that talks like there is a sweat spot. Maybe I found it, I'm not sure.

When I started my CH I seemed to have been lucky and got pet offers from others (for free). One of the pets given to me was a CL 17 gurrcat. He was hurt but once I nursed him back to health (using vitality packs) he is still the best pet I have. He must be BE pet because his HAM is around 7k.

The weird thing is he gets me the most exp of any of my pets. Even more than my CL 13 tamed beetle. Anyone got any ideas of how this works? Why does my higher level pet get me more exp than a lower level pet.

Could it be because the gurrcat (naturaly tamed) is CL 10? And that is what he is based from? I don't know anything about BE.

I dont know, but im guessing its probably because of the fact that it is a gurrcat, regardless of its HAM or CL.

Lots of theories around this, little fact.

Ive noticed that cats tend to give more xp per kill in general, if this is due to that each race of pet has a built in xp modifier or simply because they happen to be the \"optimal\" level for each range of mobs you would normally use them on I dunno.

For instance. I was using a bio engineered bearded jax which was L10-12 and I got 110 xp per kill (112 I think, or if it was 115) on Theed newbie mobs. My bio engineedered bantha is max level at L10 and gives 78 xp on the same mobs. The bantha has more HAM, lower resists, lower damage, 1 special instead of the jax's 2.. Then the cat went up to just below its max level and gives 70xp per kill, havent tried it at max level yet.
And a female kaadu gives 100 xp on the same kills at L3 (L12 max, so it should count as a L6)..

Which kinda points out that theres something more than sweet spots going on as the bantha and jax was the same level and the jax got something like 40% more xp per kill.

It can be a number of different things I guess. The game has a table of average stats (which it uses if you get a BE'd pet thats illegal to adjust the pet), its possible that the game uses that to figure out which level your pets max should be and uses that instead. Its also possible that each pet model has a modifier of xp. Its also possible that theres a sweet spot for max/current level (ie that its not just current level that matters). There isnt enough data around about it yet to make much of a guess really.

My personal guess for why the xp gained is so complex is that the devs themselfs arent sure how its calculated (wouldnt be a first).
