Is there anyway to have a creature use exclusively there ranged attack? I get tired of haveing stormtroopers running away from my pet having to chase them down shooting them in the back till they die.

i dont think there is unless your pet is out of melee range of the target
There might be a ranged special attack that you could tell it to use

I thought the ranged command toggled your pet's ranged attack on and off. If you command your pet to use 'ranged' attack, won't he continue to use it until you command him 'ranged' again?

Any pet with a ranged attack will tend to use it, but will sometimes close if they miss. The ranged toggle does a better job at keeping them away, however if their target closes, the pet will still go into melee.
I also find that the toggle only works out of combat. My pets completely ignore it if they are fighting.

So how do you toggle the ranged attack?

Just like any other CH commands, you train your pet for it. You need to be a master to be able to train your pet for ranged attack though.
If you train your pet to use ranged attack when you say \"r\". And when you say \"r\", you get a message saying that ranged attack was toggled on.
