Greater Sludge Panthers

Postby Kriegan'shka » Fri Nov 19, 2004 1:18 pm

After reading another post where a fellow CH found and tamed two GSP\"s, And seeing the one at Cnet Starport. It reminded me of the GSP's I had seen while placing Flora harvs on Talus. I decided to go there yesterday and see how I would fare at aquiring one of my own.

My lucky star must have been shining as just as I set foot on Talus, Hoss sent me a tell to ask if I had tamed a GSP yet. When I said no He gave me a general area where he felt I would have the best success at aquiring one.

I mounted my bike and headed in that direction, and once I arrived at the general area he had mentioned I switched to walking and tabbing each dot that appeared on my radar. To my amazement, One of the very first lairs I came to was a GSP lair. It had four adult GSP,s lazing about right at the lair.

As soon as I arrived tho, one started walking away from the lair. Being I was hunting unbuffed as I usually do. I managed to single the big cats out and dispatch them. I then tapped the lair twice and waited.

About that time Hoss contacted me again and I filled him in on how I was progressing. He quickly offered a couple pointers that I was not aware of, and I quickly changed my normal tactics of the way I had been milking a lair, which is to kill the guards, tap the lair, kill the next spawn, tap the lair to half health, kill the next spawn, and then kill the lair. This of course was learned from many, many hours of hunting creature resources and grinding XP.

Switching to the \"proper\" tactics for aquiring rare pets and not creature resources. I was able to get two GSP's without killing another cat. Which greatly pleased me. So thank you Hoss, for taking the time, and sharing your knowlege with me to make me a better MCH, and being a good friend thats willing to share his \"special\" knowlege with a fellow ch.

Being the GSP's are only lvl 25, I'll always be able to have them out as a pair. Unlike my Gurrecks, where as I can only have one at a time out now that they have matured.

Could you share this special tatic with us, if possible? Always willing to learn a different/better way.

not really a special tactic but i suppose a lot of people don't know the fundemantal difference between a wild and mission lair.

mission lairs have guards and will spawn 2 more times when the guards are killed..this requires you to tap the lair, once at full strength, then after the second set of guards are killed you tap it to half and another set spawn...

a wild liar will spawn 4 times(counting the initial guards) before you need to tap it the first time. why is this important? lets say you are hunting wild rancor lairs..ther is a bull a youth and a rancor..you kill tham and immediately tap the lair in stead of waitng 2-3 min for the next spawn....the liar will spawn twice and now you have 2bulls, 2rancors and 2 youths and they are all angry...if you wait patiently the trio will spawn on it's own 3x after the first ones are killed

i learned this from my ranger buddy mallory when hunting for my deathhead..when hunting a rare you want to get every spawn out of the lair, and if a baby spawns, you don't want a double spawn of adults there as well...taming is much easier if the adults can't aggro you(common sense)...how would you approach a baby bull rancor with 5 adults in the area?how would you pick off 5 adults without aggroing any of them..conceal shot works most of the time, but not always with that many targets..if you wait for one spawn at a time you would just have to pick off the rancor and the rancor youth and then go tame the baby bull...

i have yet to see a baby bull, but when i do i'm not going to let lair mismanagement cause me to lose it...mch's with good rare collections have good techniques for collecting babies, you have too as some can take months to find..patience is key

Thanx Hoss, and sorry Mabon. I was being vague on purpose so as not to give away any secrets that I thought Hoss might wish to keep to himself.

hmmm,
that is very good to know. Wish it would have been posted a while ago - would have saved me some stress when i tamed my graul maler baby.
i just masked scent and went right in between 4 or 5 adults and got him, it took a while but it was definitely an adrenalin rush lol.
