If I had known then...

Postby Zurlaboo » Tue Sep 14, 2004 3:39 pm

I remember my very first excursion to Dathomir. I was a fledgling TK who had never even considered CH as an alternate profession. We went to Dath to help a friend of ours secure a rancor pet. Since none of us had a clue how to go about doing this, we split up and raced around Dath on our swoops looking for any old rancor lair to besiege.

The cry went out, a rancor lair had been spotted! The spotter was under attack and soon dead, but not before sending out a waypoint to the lair. One by one we arrived at the waypoint, me being the last to arrive (besides the original spotter who, of course, had forgotten to clone and was messed up a bit LOL.)

When I arrived, the battle was already underway. We had succeeded in pulling a single rancor and were attacking it in earnest when we learned that rancors have a larger aggro radius than most of the creatures on Tatooine. A second rancor joined the fracas, and a third, and then a nearby lair aggroed as well. The call must have gone out on the rancor's little rancor cell phones, because before it was over, there were at least FIVE THOUSAND rancors beating on us. (Okay, you caught me, that was an exaggeration, but only a slight one :))

We died... a lot.

After a period of time that was way too long, we finally managed to spawn a gnarled rancor baby. The CH managed to tame it. The mission was a success. But at such a cost...

Here's what I've learned since then. Rancor babies walk around quite commonly on Dath. I see them all the time. Sometimes they even wander a fair distance from their lair and are ready to be tamed. There is no reason to have to go through an ordeal like the one we suffered through. Just hop on your speeder (clone first, for goodness sake!) and cruise around Dath. Get the waypoints from this site and concentrate on those areas. There are bound to be babies just waiting for you to give them a good home.

By the way, there are also a lot of other babies wandering around. I see reptilian fliers, baz nitch, malkloc, gaping spiders, brackasets, rhoa kwi, purboles (but who wants those icky things!) and others all the time. If I had known how commonly babies walk around unfettered, I'd have saved myself a lot of trouble back in the day. :)
One tame at a time :)

There's no need at all to plague yourself looking for a wild rancor lair... just get in a solo group and spawn yourself two Bull Rancor missions. If a Rancor baby isn't wandering around one of the lairs, just tap it once, jump on your bike, and race away... then come back to see if a baby spawned. If there's no baby, just head to your second mission.

Rancor babies spawn so often from Bull Rancor lairs, you should have absolutely no problem locating them using a mission terminal.
