How vicious is vicious?
How vicious is vicious?
At CL 42 (3/4/2/3) I figured it's time to get a delerious merek avenger (CL40). I managed to get a baby isolated in a safe area and tried to tame it for 2 1/2 hours with no luck. I'd have to assume that I couldn't tame it due to the 'vicious modifier'. My question is, when you research a creature, how do you know how vicious it is? What number or numbers in its stats determines whether it is within your modifier range?

A rough guide is to take your Tame Vicious modifier and add 13 to it. That is about the level of aggressive creature you can tame. (Keep in mind it is rough. Your results may vary.)
I recommend getting a set of BE taming clothes though. You can have a bonus of up to +25 (more than that is ignored), which will more than likely allow taming anything up to your Max Pet Level cap.
Considering as a master the bonus is +50, there is a huge advantage given by clothing. Even on the highest level tames you will find you succeed a lot more.

I must be as dense as a hanadak. The number that you get when you add all your vicious modifiers together and add 13 refers to the actual level of the vicious creature? Creatures have no stat that determines their viciousness, it's just kind of an arbitrary factor that's not noted anywhere?
So at 3/4/2/3, my vicious mods are at +20 ( I think ). Add 13, and that means that I should be able to tame a critter who is red on the radar and no higher than level 33 ( give or take ), right? Guess those mereks are safe... for now.
If anyone happens to know a reputable seller of CH mod clothing on the Tempest server, I'd be most grateful. Post here or email me in game. I have only found one merchant selling CH mod clothing and he was asking between 150,000 and 200,000 per item. Seemed a bit steep to me (or is that the going rate?)
One tame at a time,

You are correct. You should be able to tame and control a CL 33 or so with your current skills.
Those prices sound a bit high to me. If you find a willing BE, you might consider gathering the materials yourself and have them make a small factory run of taming tissues. Then take that crate of tissues to a tailor to have made into cloth and clothes.
Active Tranquilizers each require:
20 creature food (meat or milk)
25 milk
25 bone
10 reptile meat
You want high values in OQ, PE and FL if they have them. A crate can hold up to 25, but schematics will require extra resources to make (one set for the tissue and one for the cloth).
I recommend gathering enough for at least 10 tissues. That should give you plenty in case you want clothes with multiple slots and possibly left-overs to offer in trade or a price reduction in the clothes. Being in crates from a factory ensures you can select clothes that use multiple clothes (and takes less inventory space).
